MDG # 4- Child's mortality

“Children are the hope of the future”, it may not speak a lot to everyone but for some people like me, really believes on it. It is alarming on my part knowing about the drastic change on the rate of child’s mortality. It made me think of the possibilities (why such thing happened) and some of the possible consequences that will happen in the near future.
Children are young human beings. As human beings children evidently have a certain moral status. There are things that should not be done to them for the simple reason that they are human. At the same time children are different from adult human beings and it seems reasonable to think that there are things children may not do that adults are permitted to do. Children do have a right to live; thus, child’s mortality must be taking into consideration. On the practical side, since we are experiencing crisis nowadays due to the drastic change of the rate of the population…is it still safe to say that Child’s mortality can somehow helps us? My answer will always be NO, because there are lots of ways in order to decrease the number of raising population (family planning, use of contraceptives ...etc.) but NOT by this means.

Child survival lies at the heart of everything!!!

According to the research, more than 70% of almost 11 million child deaths are attributable to six causes: diarrhea, malaria, neonatal infection, pneumonia, preterm delivery or lack of oxygen at birth. This would simply tell us that these certain diseases are preventable. And, one of the important prevention is the improvement of maternal health care. It is simply a matter of “awareness”….educating future mothers on the proper way of caring children specifically on health matters (A mother’s health is also critical to newborns, particularly in light of new research that suggests a sound neonatal environment is an important predictor of future health).

“We can despair that a change has come and assume that things will be worse, or we can look with excitement at the new possibilities that the change presents”
A CHILD CHANGES THINGS!
